I was feeling like vegging out tonight, so I started playing Final Fantasy 5 on my Super Nintendo emulator.

first four characters:
Butz (yes, really), Lenna, Galuf, Faris

Here is my diary from the first half-hour of the game:

1. When we found crystal shards that gave us magic powers, it was Butz' bird--that he rides--that told us how to use them.
2. The first five minutes featured a fully-crewed pirate ship pulled by a sea dragon (captained by Faris, who we meet later)
3. Upon arriving at the first town, the pirates all shout 'BEER!' and run into the pub. Faris ditches us to go drink with them.
4. In the tavern, the purple-clad, matching pirates are drunk. The one sitting at the bar says, 'I... I love you, Captain...' He is talking to himself. Faris is upstairs. It... it seems they are dressed to match Faris' lavender hair.
5. We get the 'Special Service'--a lap dance--from the three dancing girls, for free. A lech sitting in the corner claims that he isn't peeking.
6. Faris is asleep upstairs in his room. Butz and Galuf (an old man) tiptoe in one after another to peek, and both come out of the room with hearts above their heads. They sympathize for a moment about how gorgeous Faris is. Lenna looks on in disgust. Faris tells them to snap out of it and locks them out.
7. We know this much about the quest ahead: the monster in the canal only attacks women.
